Blue Lotus – 8-Page Teaser
A tribute to egypt's golden age.
Ali is obsessed with a single black-and-white film from the 1960s Egypt. He’s watched it a thousand times in the same crumbling downtown Cairo theatre. But one day, the lead actor, a legendary Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez, breaks the fourth wall and stares directly at him. The projector jams. The theatre shuts down. And a mysterious ticket master hands Ali a blue lotus, telling him it’s his only way in or out.
Ali finds himself transported into the film’s original timeline, now on set with Halim and a crew racing to finish their final scene before war breaks out. But the story has changed. The script has missing pages. And the version Ali knows and loves, the one that shaped his identity, may never be completed unless he interferes. The question is: should he?
The Blue Lotus is a 108-page graphic novel about nostalgia, legacy, and the thin veil between art and reality. Told through lyrical narration, surreal moments, and cinematic pacing, it explores what it means to live inside a story you’re trying to preserve, and what you lose in the process.
The graphic novel was created in collaboration with Georgian artist Luka Japaridze, whose expressive line work and atmospheric palette bring the emotional and metaphysical layers of the story to life.
